Alpha1 Deutschland e.V. invited for the 28th to 30th of August 2009 it’s liver affected members and interested persons for an info day with focus upon „the liver“ to Kassel. Totally 60 members and guests have been coming. Not only 20 adults with liver symptoms but also eleven families with liver affected children joined the meeting. A childminding agency looked after the minis, so the parents could take time for the info day. Lectures were given by the Professors Bals and Rauterberg and by Dr Kardorff and Dr von Schönfeld as well as by the psychological therapist Dr Hirschmann. The subjects included the inflammatory mechanisms through AAT deficiency, options and difficulties with the screening of AAT deficiency and the descriptions of the AAT deficiency in the childhood and with adults regarding liver affected patients. In addition to that different workshops took place giving the participants the opportunity to speak about personal problems and to ask questions. The resonance on this liver day was very positive and there was a good balance between information and personal conversation.
